Mourning Aunty
Forgive me, Jesus for ever feeling ashamed of the sound of my poor Mother’s tinny, tamarind-sweet laughter whenever she rejoiced at finding such solace in the sermon, such splendor in the scripture and hope in the merciful heart of the ever rising sun. Whenever she wept, she wept inconsolably because I was ashamed of her joyful ignorance. She wept because I did not yet know my Heavenly Father and refused to know Him when all we knew was suffering. Forgive me Jesus, and tell my loud, wise, dear, tamarind-sweet Mother in Heaven to weep no more.
