A Small Island Inside A Big Universe Sitting Atop A Whole Half World
Headmaster
Whether you wear a hair weave, bantu knot,
crew cut, mullet or jheri curl,
the head is a small island
inside a big universe
sitting atop a whole half world.
Life can snatch you bald in an instant
or turn your black hair white.
Just place a bloody wig on your head, man,
and continue to fight the Goddamned fight.
So hold your head high if she loves you.
Higher if her heart is cold.
Never let anybody, Sir Officer,
dim the light of your troubled soul.
Let us entertain the so-called merits of this Octaroon:
A definite thief? A possible Murderess?
A vile, veil wearing church carrier?
A fired former catechist and au pair?
And you truly believe that with her
you’d produce pretty children with good hair?
Ha Ha! You are lost my brother, I swear!
Listen! Cornrows, bowl cut, dry scalp,
split ends or curly perm,
you’d produce a strange
small island of a child
if the Octaroon’s holy rolling egg
should unite with your far from holy sperm.
That is, if she brings the sweet
but horrid thing to term.
Amen and Hallelujah I must be speaking
truth in here tonight!
Because, your stylist, Mourning Aunty
has caught the Holy Ghost. Right on! Alright!
Except I fear she is about to burn your scalp
with that greasy hot, hot comb.
Come now Officer, pay your fee
plus tip she generously
and make we head on home.

a Bojangles Bush or a Shirley Temple curl,

Goatwaterstrip - single panel Goatwater comics in black and white, much like you'd find in a newspaper. I create most of these with pen, pencil, ink and sometimes black and white paint.
