Goatwater-2-Page 2 - Transcript - Get Me To The Water

Officer

Goodman, you goat! Is that you carrying my childhood dreams? Or am I waking up inside of some Heathen The-ater? Ha Ha! How can someone like me, who believes in nothing except for technological advancement and intra-rational law, keep conjuring up such primitive things? Is it because of how badly I want that woman? God only knows! Ha Ha! You’ve lost weight, my boy. How did you do it? Who is that knocking on my door? No! It can’t be her! What is this, Goodman? Are we cast in some backward play with you co-starring as the svelte savage carrying magical dolls and she as the veiled, virgin Octaroon-missionary ready to give up the church and call me God? Oh Lawdy! Ha Ha! Oh, and me, the star, of course, playing the classically-featured, handsome hero for the heroine (albeit a little thick about the waist and muddied brown about the skin)? But if that is so, where the devil are my LINES, then? Jesus! Can’t I enjoy both physical love and scripture? Just this once? Watch me pout. Ha Ha! How do I keep from smiling? From burning? From smiling while I burn? Now what is that prayer my daft Father taught me? Ah, here it comes: Jesus, cool my loins and warm my heart. Wait for it….IT’S NOT WORKING! Father always was a philandering lout and it literally drove my Mother out her head and to the goats. You might know her. Get me to the Water, Goodman. I thirst. Get me to the Water, tomorrow, because this OTHER heat right now, Goodman, well it’s hot! You’re right. I must use my calm voice when I call out to her. First, hide yourself, heathen! Good.

Now, listen:

Kind Octaroon? Is that you? Why, what an unremarkable pleasure that you’ve come to call on such a calm carnival evening. Do come in.
